Cake for Breakfast To Lose Weight? Count me in!

A new study (which I read about here on ScienceDaily.com, one of my favorite breaking health sites) found that when dieters added one food group to their breakfast, they were able to lose more weight in the long term. Can you guess what food group? No, not veggies. Not meats.

Dessert.

Me & Cake, circa 2011

These results lead me to one conclusion: There is a God.

The study revealed that dieters who ate a large breakfast with carbs, protein and cookies, cake or chocolate, lost significantly more weight (40 pounds more!) than those who ate a small, low-carb breakfast over a 32-week study. The researchers said that the sweets helped tame cravings early on in the day, so that after dinner the participants were less likely to cheat on their diets. Also, the sweets in the morning helped to rev up their metabolism. Read more here, as it is pretty fascinating.

So, obviously, I will be starting this diet tomorrow. Along with my normal eggs and sausage or ham, or eggs and spinach, I will also be eating three of the oatmeal cookies that I made this weekend that are tempting me on the counter as we speak. Wish me luck!

Do you think that eating sweets for breakfast would help you eat healthier the rest of the day?

Do you eat breakfast now? If so, what keeps you full? What's your favorite?

  1. I havent heard that eating cookies and cake for breakfast helps you lose weight.. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about this diet and how it works out for you. :)
I personaly dont think this would be something for me. If I start my day with cookies or cake I'll probably end up craving more of it all day long.. :P

YES! I always eat breakfast! I could NEVER go without. The last meal of the day for me is usually around 7 or 8 pm. My body naturally wakes up at 6:30 or 7 am. A few min. after waking up I'm already hungry. I usually start my day with a bowl of oatmeal topped with a banana, cinnamon and milk. It keeps me full for about 3 hours. My body tends to get hungry ever 2-4 hours so I always try to get enough fiber into my diet. :)
